If you did not know I am no longer the president of Rocky Top Multisport Club. For those of you that may not know Rocky Top Multisport Club is the Knoxville, TN triathlon club that has been in existence for the past three seasons.

I can say that I was very thankful for the opportunity to help with the club over the past year & I can say that I am very thankful that I no longer am president. The reason being you see is I had no experience what so ever as a president ever. For this ADHD girl getting me to sit still & pay attention has always been somewhat of a feat, but when I am tuned in I am all there. Jay Meeks has been kind enough to volunteer for the 2012 Triathlon season & hopefully he will stick around for more years to come. I have asked him to share some information with us to get to know him a little better. Welcome Jay & Thanks for all you have done for the club so far & all you will continue to do. The board has already made a big impact in 2012 & I am excited to see more changes soon!
Name: Jay Meeks
Age Group: 35-39
Current City: Knoxville
Hometown: Roanoke, VA
Children, Wife: Wife and 3 dogs!
How many years have you been competing in triathlon? 5
Longest Triathlon Distance to Date: Ironman Florida 2009 and B2B in 2010
Crazy Random Facts: Played Trombone, once insulted by James Brown, took 3 tries to get drivers permit, used to look like he was in the band Hanson & used that to meet women (unsuccessfully)
1) What made you decide to step up and take the role as RTMC president for 2012?
I was a staff member of the Atlanta Triathlon Club and wanted to be involved in RTMC. Being a part of a club is a rewarding experience!
2) Did you have a nutrition plan before the race? What is your nutrition of choice during a race?
For Rev3, I took a gel about 15 minutes before the race. On the bike, I’ll drink water and take a few hits of EFS liquid shot. On the run, I’ll have a cup of sports drink at the aid stations.
3) What is your post race indulgence food or beverage? Beer and pizza!
4) Besides finishing, what is the most exciting part of triathlon for you?
Being surrounded by so many athletes that are as passionate about the sport as I am and also seeing how the sport can positively change others life.
5) What was the best & and worst part of training for your first Ironman?
The best: surviving the training! Race day is the easy part. The worst, overtraining which made me sick for 2 months.

6) What advice would you give to anyone wanting to train for Ironman or a race they consider to be more of an endurance race? Don’t be in a rush. The better prepared you are (particular for an iron distance race) the better experience you’ll have.
7) Any additional information you would like to share about how you got into triathlon or future events you would like to train for: I got into the sport after a running injury and never looked back. In fact, I think I’ve only run 3 stand-alone races since getting into triathlon. My main “A” race this summer is Ironman Wisconsin. It’ll be my third IM and hopefully the fastest!
